Selecting an indication

All the indications shown are based on the known patient inputs and the medication. Only indications that are contained in the client-specific underlying formulary can be displayed which means that the list may not encompass all potential uses for the selected medication.

List of indications​

The list of indications is shown in a table view. Above the table on the right is a search bar that can be used to search the indications. The search string entered does not need to match the beginning of an indication but can match any consecutive part; for example, searching for "acne" will return "Mild to moderate acne vulgaris" as an option.

Each indication in the table is accompanied by its respective source. In cases where multiple sources list the same indication, each will be listed separately as its own row. Clinicians will then need to choose which source they prefer to view the prescribing content from. In most instances, the source will have an associated URL that links to the source content. If the clinician clicks on a linked source, Touchdose will open the URL in a web browser. Sources have a link out icon if there is an associated URL.

Some indications cannot be selected, known as Doseless indications ; see Doseless indications below for more information.

Doseless indications​

Why are there doseless indications?​

It is possible for content in the underlying formulary to include an indication and not contain any dosing content (e.g., a dose quantity, free-text dose advice, etc.). The reason for this is usually not that the content does not exist but that the content has failed Dosium validation. The content suppliers are aware of this content failing and have still decided that it is of benefit to show the indication name despite there being no specific dosing content available in Touchdose.

The reason for including doseless indications​

The reason that displaying the indication is still valuable is because it shows what indications are suitable for treatment using the selected medication. An incomplete list of indications on Touchdose may lead the user to select a different medication or to select a similar indication, which may present dosing information that may not be completely suitable. Additionally, the indication has an associated source, so you are able to view the dosing content for a doseless indication by clicking on the source icon or by referring to the source material.

How do doseless indications appear?​

Doseless indications are greyed out in the table and cannot be clicked. If the user attempts to select a doseless indication, a message will explain that there are no known dose recommendations, and the message will advise the clinician to see the source for details. Commonly used indications​

When commonly used indications have been configured, they will be clearly marked and prioritised to the top of the list.

Tags​

Tags can be used to add additional information to medications and indications. Every tag returned for this screen is displayed. Tags that apply to the medication are shown next to the medication name — for example flagging a controlled drug or a prescribing restriction — and tags that apply to a particular indication are shown alongside that indication, next to the source, for example indicating the recommended line of therapy or relevant guidance.

If a tag includes additional detail, clicking on it will display that information. In some cases, this view may also include a link to further information; if so, a button will be shown that allows you to open the link in a new tab.

In other scenarios, a tag may contain only a link and no additional detail. In this case, clicking the tag will immediately open the external URL, and an icon will indicate that it will take you outside the system.

Finally, if a tag has no additional detail and no associated link, it will be displayed as a non-clickable label.

Other information and navigational elements​

Patient header​

At the top of the list of indications, there is a Patient header that contains all the patient information known by the system.

    • A training video that explains how to use Touchdose

    • Information about the device and formulary

    • Feedback form that allows you to send any feedback you would like
